About the Study

The Millennium Cohort Family Study is a Department of Defense-sponsored research initiative designed to support force readiness by evaluating the impact of military service on family resilience, warfighter well-being, and national defense.

As the only DoD-wide longitudinal study on military families, the Family Study provides critical insights into how military life reinforces family values and ensures the long-term stability of service members and their families.

Findings from the study inform senior military leadership and guide strategic policies that promote warfighter resilience, mission readiness, and family strength. Participants include spouses of service members enrolled in the Millennium Cohort Study, as well as single-parent service members.

Participation is voluntary but vital—each response contributes to America's military force by ensuring our service members, their families, and future warfighters have the resources and support they need. The study continues even after service separation or changes in marital status to ensure a comprehensive assessment of warfighter family well-being.
