Secretary of Defense Announces Seven New Initiatives to Enhance Well-Being of Military Force and Their Families
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced seven initiatives to improve the quality of life for Service members and their families today. These actions build on the extensive and unprecedented actions that Department of Defense (DoD) leaders have taken over the past four years as part of Austin's Taking Care of People initiative.

Millennium Cohort Family Study Launches New Survey
Both the Millennium Cohort Study and the Millennium Cohort Family Study are inviting new participants to join these unique studies, which are the largest long-term surveys of service members and their spouses. Spouses who are invited to take part in the family study will have the opportunity to share their perspectives of the impact of military life on their careers, stress, well-being, health, and adjustment.
Understanding the Military Family - Researching the Impact of Military Life
The overarching goal of the Family Study is to understand how military service impacts family members, spouses and children alike. This study, the first of its kind, seeks to get a better understanding of the long-term association between military experiences and deployments and the health and well-being of families.
DoD's Largest longitudinal military study receives endorsements from the Army Surgeon General
The Department of Defense's largest longitudinal study in military history received an endorsement from the Army's surgeon general Sept. 19, emphasizing the importance of the Navy-led study across the military services.

The Department of Defense Millennium Cohort Family Study aims for a more comprehensive understanding of how military families are coping with military life after nearly a decade at war.
